DESCRIPTION:STRAPPING FIELDHANDS\nWhat?! Really?! The Strapping Fieldh
 ands were born in the basements and bedrooms of Philadelphia over ten 
 years ago when they began taping their loose jam sessions on home reco
 rding equipment, with no other goal than to play around with some soun
 ds among friends and just tape some weird crap to amuse themselves. Bo
 b Malloy had some songs, Bob Dickie had a home studio, Jacy Webster ha
 d to be there. A band was begun. Their earliest efforts became the fir
 st Strapping Fieldhands 7\" single that was originally meant to be a o
 ne-off on Siltbreeze, but the immediate interest generated sparked a s
 eries of vinyl singles now collected on the CD Gobs on the Midway. The
 ir first ever live gig was in Fishtown!!!\n\nD CHARLES SPEER\nSinger-g
 uitarist Dave Shuford possesses a deep, woodsy baritone and the confid
 ent intonation of a master storyteller. In a world populated by meh-ra
 te bar bands, Shuford and his crack quartet are our best saloon band.

 a one-off joke has become a serious blues/booze force in Philadelphia'
